The Junior campers had a great day up at camp today! We started our day with songs and Ship Island with the rest of camp. Then we put on our sunscreen before heading over to Wally the climbing wall. Each camper got two turns to climb up as high as they wanted! We ate a quick lunch and then headed down to the archery range. Again, each camper got two turns to shoot three arrows at the targets. After archery, we took the scenic route past Thunder Ridge and hiked back up to camp. Then we got a few minutes to play, specifically in the mud from the rain last night, before getting back on the bus to Boulder. We sang a bunch of songs on the way down!
We had a snack of GORP! Which was amazing, since Juniors hardly ever eat GORP. Then we did a craft and it was time to end our day with reflection and our ‘Meatball’ song! See everyone tomorrow for pool day and the last day of camp for the summer!
All of the Junior campers hopped on the bus this morning and headed to NCAR with the rest of camp. We got off the bus, put on our sunscreen and headed out on the weather trail just west of the buildings. After checking out all of the weather stops, we headed into the outdoor courtyard to eat our lunches. We headed inside after lunch and got to check out all of the cool weather-related science displays including a tornado, a lightning tube, and some interactive displays on storm formations.
It was time to head back on the bus to Whittier. When we got there, we ate a snack and drew pictures of our experience today at NCAR. After the craft, we played “Poison Dart Frog,” which was so fun that the campers wanted to skip stories and continue playing. Then we ended the day with our “Meatball” song! See everyone tomorrow for archery!
All of the Junior campers got on the bus this morning and headed up to Wondervu for a fun day up at camp! We got off the bus and sang songs and played “Evolution” with the rest of the older campers. We put on our sunscreen and decided it was time for lunch. We all ate our lunches in preparation of our hike down to the lake! We all put on our hats and headed down to the lake to check out the water and see some fish! We walked back up to base camp and got a chance to play in the new constructed tee-pee. We even played a round of “Limbo” in the tee-pee, which was really fun.
We hopped back on the bus and headed back down to Boulder while playing “our favorite game, Sleeping Bunnies.” We went inside for a snack and then read a story about the seasons. Then we reflected on the day and talked about some rules before heading to NCAR tomorrow. We ended our day with our “Meatball” song! We cannot wait until tomorrow for a chance to check out the science experiments at NCAR!
All returning and new campers hopped on the bus this morning and headed up to Wondervu for a fun day at camp! We enjoyed singing songs on the bus, and sang more songs when we arrived at camp! We also played a getting-to-know-you game called “The Sun Shines on…” with the rest of the older campers. After, we talked about rules in our small Junior group before putting on our sunscreen and heading up to Thunder Ridge for lunch. As we ate, we enjoyed amazing vistas looking towards the Continental Divide. After lunch, we went on a hike down towards camp and then back up to the day camp site. We also got a chance to free play before getting back on the bus to Boulder.
When we arrived at Whittier, we had a quick snack and then got an opportunity to decorate/re-decorate our water bottles! One of our campers this week brought us a whole stash of amazing stickers to be used on our waterbottles, it was very exciting! We then read a story about hurricanes and then ended our day with some introductions to the week and each other and also our “Meatball” song. See everyone tomorrow for another exciting day at Wondervu!
The three groups of Junior campers stayed at Whittier today in preparation of pool day! We started our day with some swimming songs and then played “Wax Museum” and “Fire in the…” We got some free play time to draw with chalk and build with popsicle sticks before eating our lunch. After lunch we listened to some rules about the pool, which all campers did a great job following today! Then it was time to load on our sunscreen and head to the pool!
We arrived at the pool and new campers got a chance to “show us what you know” in the swim screen, so that the counselors knew who could swim on their own. Some of us played in the pool, warmed up on the deck, and some were on the slide and the water features. The clouds started rolling in just when we were getting out of the pool, which was perfect timing.
We went back to Whittier for a snack and got a chance to finish our Pet Rocks. We read a story about rocks and then circled up to reflect on the day and also the week. We hope everyone had a great time at camp and we will see you next week or next summer!
All three cabin groups of Juniors hopped on the bus this morning (The Turquoise Hearts, the Rockstar Chickens Who Eat Corn on the Cob, and the Nacho Macho Men) and headed up to Wondervu. We applied sunscreen and quickly walked to the archery range. Counselor Amanda instructed us on the proper way to shoot the arrows and every camper took a turn. We walked back up to base camp for lunch and then played some rounds of Gold Rush/Armageddon before getting back on the bus back to Boulder. When we returned to Whittier, we had a snack and painted our pet rocks. Counselor Max told us about Shockti and then it was time for our “Meatball” song. See everyone tomorrow for pool day!
After a very quick change of plans due to some logistics with the bus, the three groups of Junior campers (The Turquoise Hearts, the Nacho Macho Men, and the Rockstar Chickens Who Eat Corn on the Cob) stayed on the bus for a long ride up to NCAR. We had lunch outside on their nice terrace and then went inside to check out all the science experiments. We went on a quick hike and saw a deer! We were all very excited.
We got back on the bus and went back to Whittier to play some games in the field before heading inside for snack, a volcanic explosion, and stories before our “Meatball” song. See everyone tomorrow up at camp!
All three cabin groups of Junior campers hopped on the bus this morning up to Wondervu. We sang songs and played a game of “Ship Island” before putting on our sunscreen. We then headed over to “Wally” our 26 foot rock climbing wall and put on our harnesses and helmets! Check out the pictures on our photo site to see each camper climbing.
We then ate lunch and afterwards played a really fun game called “Owl.” It was then time to head back down to Boulder on the bus. We had a snack and then played another game called “Poison Dart Frog” before listening to some stories and finishing the day with our “Meatball” song. See everyone tomorrow at the Mesa Trail!
After a scenic bus ride up to the mountains, we circled up, and sang some camp songs. We then adventured up to Thunder Ridge, and ate lunch whilst listening to some camp stories. After lunch, we migrated down to the “blank” space, where the campers built magnificent forts (for bugs and humans). We then hopped on the bus and rode it back to Boulder. Back in Boulder, we whipped out the markers and customized our water bottles. The day ended with a story time, and the meatball song.
All the junior campers jumped on the bus this morning headed up to Wondervu. We got off the bus, sang a few songs and then it was time for all of us to rock climb on our 26-foot wall, Wally! Each camper got multiple turns to take different routes on the wall with our climbing instructor, Ben. We ate a quick lunch and then walked down to the archery range. Tommy took us through the rules and guidelines to archery and then it was our turn to fire the arrows! Many campers hit the targets! Ed, our bus driver, picked us up and we were on our way.
We came back to Whittier for a quick snack and then did a craft about dinosaurs and read a story about Sue the T-Rex! We closed our day with reflection on the week and sang our last “Meatball” song! We hope to see you all either later this summer or next year!
